PARKERSBURG - To raise more funds for the Salvation Army of Parkersburg Corps, the organization's thrift store will hold a specialty sale this weekend.
"From what I understand, this hasn't been done in many years," said Lt. Mechelle Henry, pastor/commanding officer of the organization.
Beginning today, the Salvation Army Family Thrift Store, at 550 Fifth St., will have a $5 bag of clothing sale. The sale will be from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. both today and Saturday.

While the store has more than clothing for sale items available range from games and accessories to toys only clothing is included in this weekend's bag sale.
During the sale, each bag filled with clothing will cost $5 total. All other items, such as shoes, accessories and boutique pieces will not be part of the sale, even if they do fit in the bag.
"The Family Thrift Store has so many clothes, that we want to provide an opportunity for families to buy more for less," said Henry.
"We hope to have a bag sale every quarter to financially help people in our community and to prepare the store to receive new items to sell," she added.
The Salvation Army Family Stores are made up of items contributed by community members quality used furniture, clothing and household goods are put up for sale at affordable prices at the roughly 1,400 organization thrift stores throughout the United States, according to the website at www.salvationarmyusa.org.
As people purchase directly from the Salvation Army stores, it allows the organization to help those in the community who need their services.
Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from the organization each year through provides food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing, shelter and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.
Although the sale is this weekend, Henry said the local corps always welcome volunteers and service workers to help in the store.
"We could always use help sorting and restocking shelves and racks in the store," she said. "This is a great opportunity for students to complete hours for school and we also invite the community to visit the store as we modify new lower prices within the next few months."
