Guy W. Shingleton

Surrounded by his loving family, Guy W. Shingleton, 89, of Weirton, returned to our Lord on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Trinity West Hospital following a brief illness.

Born May 2, 1923 in St Marys, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Ximenia Radcliff Shingleton. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia Lamp Shingleton; sisters, Phyllis Cunningham, Naomi Miller, Evelyn Hooper, Betty DeLong, Ruth Griffin and Elizabeth Fetty; granddaughter, Sarah Shingleton; and great-grandson, Kyle Chambers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

With 42 years of service, Guy retired from Weirton Steel. He was a member of the Weirton First Church of the Nazarene, the WSX 25-Year Club and an award-winning bee keeper.

Guy is survived by his son, Guy William "Bill" Shingleton and his wife Brenda of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; daughters, Carol Johnson and her husband Delano of Georgetown, Pa., Penny Brown and her husband Jack and Teresa Barnhart and her husband Jim, all of Weirton; sister, Wanda Murphy of Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday. The Rev. Larry Barkley and Rev. Larry Hooper will officiate. Interment service will be held Thursday, noon, at the IOOF Cemetery, St Marys, W.Va.
