Larry Gene Effingham

Larry Gene Effingham, 70, of Parkersburg, died on Friday, June 22, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Huntington, W.Va., on December 18, 1941, to the late Leroy and Erma Baugh Effingham. Larry was veteran of the U.S. Navy and member of South Side Southern Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing to the congregation. He was a big fan of Williamstown High School sports. He was a golfer and an avid fisherman, winning many awards and making his own lures. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren whether out on the course golfing or in a boat fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy "Dot" Effingham; two daughters, Debbie McKenna of Mineral Wells and Lisa Frye (Dan) of Williamstown; four grandchildren, David McKenna II (Becky), Derek McKenna (Amber), Joshua Frye and Sean Frye; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Charles Vernon Effingham; and two sisters, Louise Herring and Maxine Simmons.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 26, beginning at 1 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Paul Drake officiating. Visitation will be Monday, June 25, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
