Veterans honored on holiday

June 17, 2012
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

In response to Mr. McIntyre's letter to The Parkersburg News about a Memorial Day parade. If anyone must write a letter to the public, please check your facts first. The Memorial Day Cook Out for Veterans at City Park was sponsored by The Veterans Museum of Mid-Ohio Valley with assistance from Deerwalk Veterans Association, not the American Legion. This was our third annual cookout welcoming all veterans and their families.

As far as a parade is concerned, that is not the mayor's job. The service organizations always have a parade on Veterans Day and each organization takes turns being in charge. It is up to these organizations to put a parade together. Maybe he should call the American Legion or VFW and ask them why they don't have a parade. There is an event at City Park every Memorial Day honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
