Require citizens to vote was the viewpoint given in a letter to the editor on June 10 in the Parkersburg News and Sentinel. I don't question the writer's concern and love for America. He wrote of the "horror of facing the enemy in order to live in a free land." I do ask he consider using the force of the state to, as he writes, "compel" citizens to vote or "face a fine" is in contradiction to freedom to chose.
A citizen may choose not to vote as a expression of political freedom. Another law forcing the uninterested or the unwilling to participate could very well do more harm than good. I vote "no" on "require citizens to vote."
