VIENNA -Parkersburg High School golfer Alan Cooke scorched the Parkersburg Country Club twice on Saturday to advance to this morning's semifinal round of the 2012 West Virginia Junior Match Play Championship.
Cooke, who entered the 16-person competition as the No. 11 seed, rolled to a pair of 7-and-5 wins over No. 6 seed David Coram and No. 3 Dylan Wojcik, both of Wheeling.
He will now meet No. 7 William Evans of Charleston at 7:40 a.m. today.
In the other semifinal, top-seeded Thadd Obency II of Wheeling will take on No. 4 Chris Williams of Scott Depot.
The two semifinal winners will tee off at 1 p.m. in an 18-hole match for the state championship.
Wood County's other two entries were eliminated in close opening-round matches.
