PARKERSBURG - Consumer Credit Counseling is raising funds to relocate John and Gerald Beckett to a new trailer, following a fire at the brothers' Beechwood park mobile home last week.
Consumer Credit Counseling is the Becketts' financial representative and handles the brothers' disability checks.
"We're trying to purchase a new trailer for them to live, or possibly find a rental for them," said Tammy Gaston, acting executive director of Consumer Credit Counseling. "Right now they are being taken care of by the American Red Cross, but only for about another week. After that, I'm not sure where they will go. They very well could become homeless."
Gaston said the community has shown support for the brothers, who lost their 32nd Street trailer to a fire on Thursday. The fire was ruled accidental by fire investigators.
"There is this myth that the brothers have a lot of money, but they don't," said Gaston. "They are on a very fixed income, and they need all the help they can get."
This week, Consumer Credit Counseling looked at a potential trailer in the Beechwood area.
"We would like to keep them in the Beechwood area because they are familiar with the neighborhood," she said.
