PARKERSBURG - A Parkersburg couple has chosen the city's riverfront park as the site for their wedding, the first at the newly redesigned Point.

Mariah Mowery and her fiance, Derick Hamrick, both of Parkersburg, will wed Sunday afternoon in the amphitheater at Point Park.

The couple has been engaged a year, but Mowery didn't decide on a wedding site until a few months ago. She got the idea to hold the wedding at the point after reading newspaper articles about the new park.

Mariah Mowery, 19, and her fiance, Derick Hamrick, 24, will tie the knot Sunday afternoon in the amphitheater at Point Park.

"I saw the articles about people having weddings down there," she said.

"I went down there to look at it," she said. "I thought it would be a perfect place to get married. It is beautiful. I love the bridge in the background."

Mowery said decorations won't be a problem.

"It's been pretty easy," she said. "You don't even have to decorate very much because it already is so pretty."

The nuptials are scheduled for 1 p.m. She invited 50 people to the ceremony.

"I'm really excited," she said. "I can't wait."

Mowery said Hamrick didn't go with her to scout the park until a few weeks ago.

"I took him last week and he said it was perfect. He loved it," she said.

The Mowery-Hamrick wedding is one of seven scheduled at Point Park this year, according to city officials.

Mowery said she wouldn't picked the park to hold her wedding had it not been refurbished.

"It was just plain," she said of the old park. "Not too much to it. There wasn't anywhere (down there) to have anything like this."
