PARKERSBURG - The city's two Democratic candidates for mayor have both spent about $7,000 on their respective campaigns.
Incumbent Bob Newell has spent almost $8,000, according the latest campaign finance statements. His challenger, Gerald Board, has spent just under $7,000.
However, Newell has raised almost $20,000 for his mayoral campaign and has close to $12,000 left. Board has little more than $1,500 left in his bid for mayor.
Since the primary campaign financial statement was filed April 6, Newell reported contributions of $4,550, according to the pre-primary statements filed in the City Clerk's office April 27. Newell's campaign received $500 from Abdi Ghodsi and $1,000 each from Susan Ross, Melissa Ross, Samuel Ross III and Samuel Ross. He also reported a $50 contribution from Jerry Shaw.
All Newell's expenditures (totaling $7,949.70) were for advertising, television, newspaper and screen graphics.
Board reported expenditures of almost $7,000 for billboards, signs, post cards, mailouts, newspaper ads and commercials. To date Board's campaign has raised $8,499.
Board reported a $1,000 contribution from Robert and Vicki Cox and a $500 contribution from Larry Moody. Board's camp also listed contributions (of $250 or less) from Parkersburg Area Labor Council, Donald and Brenda Daugherty, Rick Woodyard, P.W. Gribble, Robert G. Hendricks, Brandon Boone, C.A. and Karen Cayton, Painters District 53 PAC, R. Duke, Ruth Sider, Thomas and Carol Smith, C and M Distribution, Jeffrey Nohe, Donald Daugherty, Mike Barker, Darlene Barnett and Lori Cutlip.
Republican mayoral candidate Sharyn Tallman, who is unopposed in the primary, reported contributions totaling $2,520. She has spent $1,431. She did not list any contributors for this finance cycle. Tallman had a campaign fundraiser at Worthington Golf Club April 27, according to her website.
In the race for Parkersburg City Council, District 3 candidate Georgiana Atkinson reported spending $1,066 on her campaign. District 7 candidate John Kelly reported his campaign has raised $1,371 and spent $694. District 5 candidate J.R. Carpenter has spent $661 on his run for office.
Candidates Kenneth Judy, Dave Passadyn, Sharon Lynch, James M. Richards, Jeremy Crites, Tandra Mays, Roger E. Brown, Jim Myers, Paul Miller, Mike Reynolds, Scott Jarvis, Jim Reed have not filed the pre-primary reports.
