NEW MATAMORAS- A Washington County woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Ohio 7 in Grandview Township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Laura Hoff, 58, of Newport, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred about 2:50 p.m. Saturday near milepost 50 on Ohio 7.
Jacob Minder, 18, of New Matamoras, was driving north on Ohio 7 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck Hoff's southbound vehicle, the highway patrol reported.
A child passenger in Hoff's vehicle was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital and was then flown to Children's Hospital in Columbus.
The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol's Marietta Post. Under standard procedures, blood tests were taken and the results will be available in a couple of weeks, but no alcohol or drugs are suspected on either driver, the highway patrol reported.
The New Matamoras Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department, the Newport Volunteer Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation responded and assisted at the scene.
