PARKERSBURG - Visiting Capital scored two runs each in three consecutive innings Friday night to register a 6-2 MSAC baseball victory over Parkersburg High at City Park, dropping the Big Reds' record to 5-14 on the season.
PHS plays a noon doubleheader at Lewis County today with head coach Alan Burns eligible to come back for the second game after serving a four-game suspension for being ejected.
Except for Paul Fichtelman's infield single, the Big Reds were held hitless for the first three innings Friday as they struck out five times and had only two baserunners.
In the meantime, Capital (9-18) tallied twice in its third at-bat on winning pitcher Taylor Fisher's run-scoring groundout and Justin Palmer's RBI infield single, and added two more runs in the fourth frame on Jordan Bray's sacrifice fly and Seth Roadcap's RBI single to go up 4-0.
PHS then got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when DH Mason Humphrey led off with a single, was sacrificed to second base by Fichtelman, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Cougar fielding error.
But Capital tacked on another two-spot in the top of the fifth on Anthony Gavin's run-scoring groundout and Jacob Williams' RBI single, before pulling off double plays to kill off Big Red scoring threats in both the last of the fifth and sixth.

An infield single by Tony Brunicardi, walk to Kyle Haverty and single by Humphrey loaded the bases with one out in the PHS fifth. But Cougar right fielder Williams made a running grab of a fly ball in right-center, then launched a throw to the plate that catcher Roadcap gathered in to tag out Brunicardi trying to score from third after the catch.
'We were watching their outfielders before the game, and thought ''we can run on this guy and that guy, but their right fielder probably has the best arm,' and then after what happened, we know he does,'' said acting PHS head coach Jim Procopio.
And in the sixth, an around the horn 5-4-2 twin killing stifled the Big Reds again, although they did manage another run in the bottom of the seventh on doubles by Brunicardi and Humphrey.
