VIENNA -Saturday's Vienna River Road Race 5K Run ended the same way as the previous nine years -with Dave Miller of Athens, Ohio, breaking the tape at the finish line.
When he congratulated Miller on his 10th straight victory, race director Lou Molinaro joked he was considering changing the name to the Dave Miller Invitational.
The 44-year-old Miller jumped out to a sizable lead and then hold off 27-year David Bright of Marietta, winning by a margin of 10 seconds. Miller finished in 28 minutes, 48.88 seconds while Bright's official time was 28:58.96. Placing third was 33-year-old Shaun Dunn of Parkersburg in 31:11.12.

Dave Miller is used to leading the pack at the Vienna River Road Run. The 44-year-old resident of Athens, Ohio, won the race for the 10th straight time on Saturday. Running in behind Miller is Vienna’s Joe Wiltsey (2127), who won the Masters Division.
Dominating the female competition was 23-year-old Brittany Schob of Vienna, whose winning time of 31:59.72 was nearly five minutes ahead of runnerup Becky Poling, a 45-year-old Parkersburg resident who finished in 36:37.05. Placing third was 44-year-old Phyllis Brown of St. Marys in 36:55.95.
Masters winners were 42-year-old Joe Wiltsey of Parkersburg (32:50.83) and 53-year-old Leslie Thomas of Washington (41:27.02).
Despite an early morning rain that started just as the competitors were making their way to the start line at Jackson Middle School Stadium, a field of 153 runners and 78 walkers participated in the 16th annual event, which has become a Vienna tradition. Also, more than 50 children competed in the first stop of the River City Runners Kids Series.

"I was really pleased with the turnout,'' said Molinaro, who has been a race director ever since the race's inception. He used to share those duties with Terry Hickle, now he goes about it solo.
Molinaro noted that Vienna Mayor David Nohe, who is leaving that position following the November election, started his first term as mayor the second year of the race and has attended it every year since.
The race is sponsored by Camden-Clark Medical Center, which was represented by Kim Couch. Chad Emrick of Cornerstone Gospel offered the invocation.
A pair of 54-year-olds were the first walkers to cross the finish line as Jeff Musser of Racine, Ohio, broke the tape in 30 minutes, 44.89 seconds. Tim Finkel of Marietta was second in 31:16.36 while 50-year-old Alex Thoburn of Paden City was third in 31:21.42.
Donna Graham, one of the best known walkers in the Mid-Ohio Valley, was the first female to finish. The 62-year-old resident of Lowell, Ohio, recorded a time of 32:32.96. Carol Seely, 57, of Vienna, was second in 33:20.85, while Melissa Shea, 45, of Marietta, was third in 34:44.93.
Competitors ranged in age from a trio of 9-year-olds to 80-year-old Joe Ross of Parkersburg.
Molinaro was pleased with the performance of the many volunteers who make the race possible. He said the water stops, the timers and the traffic control went smoothly. Vienna residents were asked not to park their cars along Grand Central Avenue and a 5:30 a.m. check revealed not a single vehicle was parked along the race route.
Each of the participants received a coffee cup designed by Jackson Middle School student Sarah Boone, who won the competition conducted in teacher Kay Mason's advanced art class.
