Amber Kesterson rallied to win her No. 4 singles match to give Parkersburg High a huge 4-3 road win over defending state champion Huntingon. The Big Red girls upped their record to 17-0.
Softball
How appropriate. With Parkersburg High School celebrating Seniors Day, all three 12th graders on the Big Reds roster had RBIs in a 6-1 win over Spring Valley. Contributing to the Big Reds' three-game winning streak were seniors Jessica Blair, Lindsay Moran and Jackie Buckles. Cassidy Newbrough pitched a complete game for Parkersburg.
CeCe Bailey pitched both games as Parkersburg South swept University, 6-2 and 10-0 on Friday. Genna Trippett hit her 10th home run of the season, a grand slam, and had six RBIs in the second game.
Natalie Perry not only got a three-inning save in Belpre's 16-7 win versus Trimble, but the senior also went 4 for 5 and knocked in three.
Tori Tharp pitched a shutout in the first game and Mallory Chapman tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap as Magnolia swept Fort Frye, 4-0 and 9-1 on Friday. The Blue Eagles are 22-3.
Baseball
Mark Andrew Davis stole three bases and drove in two runs and D.J. Burgess fanned five in three innings of work to get the win as Ritchie County topped Doddridge County, 12-2.
Karl Bennington launched a solo home run in the sixth for Gilmer County, but visiting Notre Dame had a three-run seventh to defeat the Titans, 6-3.
Chandler Sapp fanned six in a three-hit complete game and Zach Willhoite had two RBIs as Magnolia handed Liberty (Harrison) a 4-1 setback.
Ben Barnas tossed a nine-inning three-hitter, Tim Grosel had a solo home run and Justin Futrell had the game-winning RBI as Marietta nipped visiting Coshocton, 4-3.
Hunter Bradley hit a three-run homer as part of a six-run fourth inning as Roane County defeated Calhoun County 13-3 in five innings.
Wes Hatfield socked a two-run homer and also had a sacrifice fly to knock in all Belpre's runs, but the Golden Eagles bowed 9-3 to visiting Trimble.
Zach Prichard not only picked up the pitching victory, but he also went 2-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored and four RBIs as Wood County Christian defeated Licking County Christian 23-5 in five innings
