PARKERSBURG - Incumbent Mayor Bob Newell has raised almost double the amount of campaign contributions of his two opponents, according to primary campaign financial statements due Friday.
Newell has received almost $18,000 in campaign contributions, according to the finance reports. Gerald Board, his opponent in the Democratic primary, has raised about $8,000. Republican City Council member Sharyn Tallman has raised about $2,520. Tallman is unopposed in the primary.
She reported contributions from Rick Modesitt ($500), David Huffman ($500) and O.B. Epling ($500). Tallman's campaign also reported a $340 contribution from fellow city council member John Sandy (District 4).
Newell, seeking to become the city's first three-term mayor, received $1,000 contributions from Matt Jones, Randy Snider, Jim McCutcheon, Paul Astorg and Richard Adams.
Mike King, Charlie Crooks, William Leachman, Charles McCoy, Zack Jones, Jim Leach, Dan Marshall, Tom Corrie, Jeff D'Costa, Bill Crichton, Calvin Daily and George Zivkovich all donated $500 each, according to the report.
Newell's campaign lists 37 individuals who contributed $250 or less to the campaign.

Newell's campaign has spent only $2,500, according to the report. The largest expense so far is $1,400 for radio ads.
Board has raised more than $8,200 so far in his bid for mayor. Board and his wife loaned their campaign $2,100. The candidate has also received contributions from Mary Welch ($1,000), Beverly Martin ($1,000), Larry Dickson ($1,000), David Morehead ($450) and Gordon and Donna Woodyard ($300). The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 899 also contributed $500.
Board also received almost $2,000 in contributions (of $250 or less) from more than a dozen others.
Board's campaign has spent $3,795.68. The largest expense is $1,370 for signs from Boys Town Nebraska.
Georgiana Atkinson, a Democratic candidate for District 3 city council, has received $1,200 in contributions. The contributions included $1,000 from her husband, Ira Atkinson, and $200 from Dan Marshall.
John Kelly, Republican candidate for District 7, has received $771 in contributions. District 5 candidates Paul Miller, a Democrat, spent $560 and J.R. Carpenter, a Democrat, has received $400 in contributions.
The primary statements were due to the city clerk Friday.
