Gallia Academy hammers Warren, 13-1

VINCENT - It was a tough game for the Warren Warriors Wednesday as they were defeated by Gallia Academy 13-1 in a five-inning mercy.

The Blue Devils offense came out swinging as they opened up an 8-0 lead in the second inning.

"We've hit well all year," Gallia Academy head coach Rich Corvin said. "We had a lot of balls hit right at people last game. Tonight we found some holes. Our kids really stepped up tonight."

The win improves Gallia Academy to 1-2.

Down eight, Warren tried to battle back. With the bases loaded and two outs, junior Austin Richards drew a walk, bringing in the only run of the game for the Warriors.

Junior Justin Bailey pitched 1 2/3 innings for the Blue Devils, giving up a run. Senior Brandon Taylor came in and pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings.

"I was happy with our pitching," Corvin said.

"We started Bailey, our number one, but he struggled a little bit. We brought in Taylor, our closer, and he pitched pretty well. It was good to see."

Gallia Academy would tack five more runs onto their lead, including solo homeruns from sophomore Ty Warnimont and senior Drew Young.

With the 13-1 win, there were not very many holes in Gallia Academy's performance, but Corvin believes there is still some work to be done.

The Warriors will look to rebound from the loss Thursday as they go on the road to take on Alexander.
