Dr. and Mrs. William Stuart Smith of Augusta, Ga., announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebecca Lauren Smith, to William Brian Dowler, son of Carmen Renee Dowler and Mr. and Mrs. William Timothy Dowler, all of Parkersburg.
The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mrs. Robert Bruce McGoogan Jr. and the late Robert Bruce McGoogan Jr. of Brunswick, Ga., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allen Oxford of Augusta and the late Dr. William Alvin Smith of Atlanta, Ga.
She is a 2004 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools and attended Gainesville State College. She is employed by Powercuts Salon and Spa in Aiken, S.C., as a master cosmetologist.

The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Barbara Ann Cooper and Jackie Stoops Cooper and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Franklin Dowler, all of Parkersburg.
He is a 1999 graduate of Parkersburg South High School and a 2004 graduate of Marshall University with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
He is employed by the National Wild Turkey Federation in Edgefield, S.C., as a membership marketing manager.
A wedding is planned for May 12 at Rose Hill Estate in Aiken, S.C.
