Parkersburg Easter Parade slated

Lineup begins 11:30 a.m. Saturday

PARKERSBURG - The third annual Parkersburg Easter Parade will be 2 p.m. Saturday on Market Street in downtown Parkersburg.

Lineup will begin at 11:30 a.m. behind Parkersburg High School and all groups are welcome. The theme for this year is "Children at their Easter Best."

In addition to the parade, there will be other Easter-related activities occurring on and around Saturday.

An Easter Bonnet and Hat contest will be Saturday behind Parkersburg High School.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and judging will be at 12:30 p.m. with prizes for ages 6-12 years, 13-19 years and 19-and-over. All winners will have the opportunity to be in the parade wearing their creations.

A free breakfast with the Easter Bunny for children 10 and under will be provided at Chick-Fil-A on Grand Central Avenue in Vienna from 9-10 a.m. Saturday. Children will receive chick-n-minis, donuts, milk and juice while visiting with the Easter Bunny and the Chick-Fil-A Cow.

An Easter Coloring contest for children ages 10 and under is under way, with coloring pages and entry forms available at the Chick-Fil-A in Vienna. The deadline for entries to be returned to the restaurant is Tuesday to permit time for judging.

Easter baskets with goodies will be given to the winners in each age group - under 4 years; 5-7 years and 8-10 years - and the winners will have the option to ride in the parade

The top four winners in The Parkersburg News and Sentinel Children's Easter Story contest will also have the option to participate in the Easter parade. The winners will be published in the Saturday edition of The News and Sentinel.

Vienna native and actor Paul Dooley will serve as the parade marshal. Dooley is known for his work in films like "16 Candles," "Cars" and many others.

The mayors of Parkersburg, Vienna, Belpre and Williamstown will be riding on an antique fire engine. The parade will include judging for the best non-commercial and commercial floats.
