Ohio 65, Chicago State 37
ATHENS-Ohio kept up its strong start to the 2011-12 season on Saturday, picking up a 65-37 win over the visiting Chicago State Cougars.
Four Bobcats scored in double figures during the contest, improving the team to 3-1 on the season. This 3-1 start is the program's best start since the 2006-07 campaign in which the Green and White began 5-0.
Tina Fisher scored a career-high 12 points in the victory, shooting 4-of-9 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Her teammates also did a great job making their opportunities count from the charity stripe, as the Bobcats shot 12-of-13 (92.3 percent) from the line. Ohio did a great job of distributing the ball around the court throughout the contest, accumulating a season-high 16 assists on 23 baskets (69.5 percent).
Freshmen Mariah Byard and Kat Yelle scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Erin Bailes rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points of her own.

Ohio played a very effective first half, shooting well from the field while playing stingy defense to gain a 32-18 lead. The Bobcats connected on 12-of-29 field goals in the first half to shoot 41.4 percent, including 3-of-9 (33 percent) from three-point distance.
This was done while the Green and White forced 12 Cougar turnovers and only allowed the visitors to shoot 7-of-28 (25 percent) from the floor.
Three Bobcats scored at least six points in the first period, with Alesia Howard, Fisher and Bailes tied for the team lead. Janay Dockery had a solid first 20 minutes for the visitors, scoring 10 points and grabbing four rebounds.
Glenville State 114, Bowie State 79
GLENVILLE - The GSC Pioneers basketball team picked up a win on Saturday as they defeated Bowie State, 114-79.
The Pioneers got down early in the first half but Tenisha Wilson connected on two free throws as GSC tied it at 14 a piece. After that Aesha Peters made a layup as the Pioneers would take a 16-14 lead, it was all GSC from there on as they would not trail again.
GSC took a 58-41 lead into halftime. In the second half the Pioneers continued their dominant play. Bowie State didn't give up and cut the lead to 71-60 with 16:55 to play in the game.
Despite the good effort from Bowie State, it was no match for GSC as the Pioneers pulled away.
GSC was led by Danielle Woodmore and Wilson, who tied for scoring honors with 18 points, while Woodmore dished out five assists, Wilson recorded her fourth double double of the year as she also grabbed 11 rebounds.
Beth Deren scored 15 points as she drilled five three pointers in the game. Mishae Miles picked up her third double double of the year as she scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Kenyell Goodson scored 11 points while Jelena Elez chipped in with 10 points and dished out a game high seven assists.
