PARKERSBURG -The numbers don't lie.
The 12 teams participating in West Virginia's high school semifinal football games this weekend represent the cream of the Mountain State's crop.
After all, they have a combined record of 135 wins and eight losses. The four Class AAA participants are 46-2, Class AA's Final Four have 43 wins and five losses. Class A teams are an incredible 46-1.
The eight losses were suffered by just four of the participants -Class AA Chapmanville lost three times, while another Class AA participant, Wayne, has two losses. The only Class AAA semifinalist to lose was Morgantown, which was suffered a 39-0 setback to its semifinal opponent, Martinsburg, and to Ohio powerhouse Steubenville. The only Class A team with a loss is top-ranked Wheeling Central, which dropped its regular season finale to Linsly, a school that isn't a part of the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission and thus plays by a different set of eligibility rules.

Here's a look at the six games that will take place today and Saturday:
Class AAA
Bridgeport, despite being one of the smallest Class AAA schools, has used its traditional stick-I offense to win 12 straight games, including victories over playoff teams Wheeling Park and Robert C. Byrd, who the Indians defeated both during the regular season and in the Class AAA quarterfinals.
Morgantown, in addition to the loss at Martinsburg, also dropped its season opener at Steubenville, 31-9. The Mohigans played Martinsburg in last year's semifinal round, losing, 24-10.
Class AA
Point Pleasant is one of two Mason County high schools who have achieved undefeated seasons as Wahama, which has used Point Pleasant's field for its previous two playoff games, also is 12-0. Other than a 16-14 win over Wayne, Point Pleasant has scored at least 37 points in its other 11 victories.
The Pioneers only losses came to Chesapeake, Ohio (14-8) and top-ranked Point Pleasant (16-14). Wayne's closest win was a 20-point victory over Poca.
Shady Spring features an offense that has scored at least 28 points in all 12 of its wins.
Class A
Wahama has produced at least 27 points in all 12 of its wins. The White Falcons like to run the football, but also can throw it when necessary. Ditto for Williamstown, whose closest call came against Class AA Ritchie County, a 25-20 victim.
An in-depth look at the two teams can be found in GameDay, which appears on Pages 2B and 3B in today's section.
Until the playoffs, the Maroon Knights only played three West Virginia teams -Linsly and playoff participants Madonna and Bishop Donahue. East Hardy has scored at least 20 points in all 11 of its wins, including a 40-26 quarterfinal triumph over Bishop Donahue, a team that Wheeling Central beat, 30-14.
