John Bolten and Allison Smith were united in marriage on Sept. 4 at the Little Gidding estate in Upperville, Va.
The bride is the daughter of Lisa and Michael McGoldrick of Norman, Okla. She is a private school violin teacher and community volunteer.
The groom is the son of Dennis Bolten and the late Judy Bolten of Parkersburg. He is a 1994 graduate of Parkersburg South High School and received an M.S. and Ph.D. degree in geology and remote sensing from the University of South Carolina. He is employed by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., as a physical research scientist.

The wedding was a traditional country celebration with their family and friends, followed by a reception of southern food, homemade pie and western-swing dancing.
The bride and groom met playing old-time music and formed the band The Barn Stars.
They live in the Washington, D.C., area.
