Gene and Carol Smith celebrated their 50th anniversary on Aug. 13.
They were married in 1961 at what is now Christ United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ray N. Shaffer.
He is the son of the late Burton and Mae Smith. He retired in 2001 after 45 years in the Army National Guard. He is employed at Alpharma in the research and development department.

She is the daughter of the late Edward and Pearl Rogers Clouse. She retired in 1996 from St. Joseph's Hospital after 22 years as department secretary in nutritional services.
They are the parents of two children, Michelle L. "Missy" Wright and her husband, Jerry, of Aberdeen, Md., and the Rev. Mark E. Smith and his wife, Winnie, of Nitro, W.Va.
They have five grandchildren, Sean and Katie Wright and Eliza, Louisa and Owen Smith.
