PARKERSBURG - WesBanco's Trust Department has announced the recipients of the Walter W. and Helen L. Morris Scholarship for 2011.
They are Susan Bumgardner of Williamstown High School, daughter of Eric and Elizabeth Bumgardner of Williamstown, and Carly White, daughter of Diane White of Vienna, of Parkersburg High School.
Bumgardner graduated from Williamstown High with a GPA of 4.12 and will enter Marshall University pursuing a law degree.
Bumgardner has volunteered for several non-profit organizations, including the Parkersburg Humane Society, Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society, many Vacation Bible Schools throughout the area, Williamstown Public Library where she assists with the RIF program, Camden Clark Medical Center, Operation Christmas Child and as a tutor for elementary school children.
She participated in the Williamstown Band, Key Club, French Club, RAZE, National Honor Society and was editor of the school newspaper while working a part-time job at Panera Bread.
White is a 3.74 GPA graduate from Parkersburg High School and will enter West Virginia University in the College of Business and Economics pursuing a degree in finance. She volunteers at the Friendship Kitchen, a program at North Parkersburg Baptist Church, and as a Sunday school assistant teacher and participated in Playground Ministry. She coached volleyball at the Elite Center, the West Virginia Juniors Club volleyball team and Wood County Recreation.
White became a member of the PHS volleyball team in her freshman year and played on a team that won a state championship in 2007 and was state runner-up in 2009 and 2010. She was named captain of the 2010 team.
White participated in Key Club, the Parkersburg Junior Civitan Club at PHS, the Miss PHS contest, the Senior Women's Club, Spanish Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Junior Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Relay for Life, Young Republicans, peer mediation and school Leadership Team.
