ELLENBORO-Authorities in Ritchie County have identified the man killed in an auto accident on U.S. 50 Wednesday afternoon.

Aaron Michael Gibson, 28, of Flemington, Taylor County, was driving a 2007 Chevy van for a Clarksburg fence company when he rear-ended a tractor-trailer rig hauling logs on U.S. 50 near Bear Run Road, the Ritchie County Sheriff's Department said.

Both vehicles were traveling east on U.S. 50 when the accident occurred just past the Bear Run Road intersection.

Members of the Ritchie County Sheriff's Department, the Ellenboro Volunteer Fire Department and Ritchie County EMS responded to the accident.

The tractor-trailer, driven by Steven Mooney of Caldwell, had just pulled onto U.S. 50 from Bear Run Road when it was rear-ended at 2 p.m., according to the department. Investigators said the truck was 310 feet from the intersection when it was struck by the van.

No signs of braking by the van were found, the department said. Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene.
