Phnelma "Pam" Bennett Evans Gorrell, 92, of Colonial House, Parkersburg, W.Va., formerly of Ravenswood, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph's Campus, Parkersburg.
She was born May 30, 1918, on the family farm in a log cabin just above Silverton, W.Va. She graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1936 and is a registered nurse from St. Joseph's School of Nursing.
In 1939 Pam served as Jackson County Health Nurse in the early 50's and then was a plant nurse at Kaiser Aluminum from 1956-1965. Pam then became a realtor/broker with Harry Gorrell Realty until retirement. Upon retirement she became active with the Senior Citizens and served on the Board of the Jackson County Commission on Aging. During this time, she worked on the acquisition of the Ripley Senior Center and was instrumental in the building of the Ravenswood Senior Center.
Pam was a member of North United Methodist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star and an avid bridge player.
Pam's parents were the late Holly Henry and Ella Elizabeth (Cline) Bennett. She was preceded in death by her first husband Harold P. Evans; and by her second husband Harry D. Gorrell.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Flanagan of Washington, W.Va.; one son, Robert "Bob" Harold (Gloria) Evans of Prague, Okla., and one stepdaughter, Dolores Donzell Smith of Washington, W.Va.
She is also survived by one sister, Beaulah Koster of Dunbar, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Michael (Marie) Flanagan of Imperial, Pa., Kathy Flanagan of Vienna, W.Va. and Alison (Craig) Grayson of Chandler, Ariz.; Pam is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Byron Rockhold, Margo Flanagan, Meredith Flanagan, and Audrey Flanagan;10 stepgrandchildren, Don (Dee) Smith, Denise (Mark) Lindamood, Darren Smith, and Duane (Lisa) Smith of Parkersburg, Byron (Peggy) Gorrell of Larkspur, Colo.; Pam Wright of Tampa, Fla., Debbie Shead of DeLand, Fla., Aaron (Elen) of Colorado Springs, Fla., Suzie (Randy) Copland of Naples, Fla., Greg (Cathie) Gorrell of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by 18 stepgreat-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Dayton Gorrell and Ron Gorrell; two sisters, Pauline Vickers and Beatrice Fisher Hite.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at the activity room of the North United Methodist Church in Ravenswood, W.Va. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the North United Methodist Church.
