WILLIAMSTOWN - For the first time in the six-year history of the Ryan Jobes Spring Special, the Williamstown girls took the team crown here Saturday at the Jack Jones Track and Field Complex.
The Yellowjacket girls of first-year head coach Zach Hall rolled to a 130-88 victory over runner-up Tyler Consolidated while the St. Marys boys used a winning finish in the 4 by 400 to edge out Magnolia, 98.5 to 94.
Ali Johnson of St. Marys, thanks in part to her winning time of 17.1 in the 100 hurdles, garnered high-point honors for the girls by scoring 26.

Brendan Kacor of Magnolia, who edged out triple-winner Jordan Brown-Stobbe (800, 1600, 3200) of University by a count of 30.5 to 30, took high-point honors for the boys. Kacor won the 100 (11.4), 200 (23.5), was runner-up by 1 1/2 inches with his 20-4 showing in the long jump to Waterford's Matt West and also ran the opening leg on the Blue Eagles' winning 4 by 100 squad. Magnolia had a clocking of 46.3 in that event as Kacor was followed by Timmy Shreeves, Tanner Fluharty and Cage Rohde.
Brown-Stobbe established one of three new meet records on a cold Saturday. The Hawk standout distance runner finished the 1600 in 4:34.7, which just bested the 2004 record previously held by Ravenswood's Andrew Benford (4:36).
Mark Britton of Ritchie County broke his own record in the discus which he set last year with an effort of 159-10. This time around, the Rebel senior produced a winning throw of 163 feet, 8 inches to best runner-up Matt Riggs of Magnolia, who went 145-10. Riggs, though, turned the tide on Britton in the shot put as the Blue Eagle won the event against his Rebel adversary, 50-2 to 48-1.

Magnolia’s Matt Riggs bested the field Saturday in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 2 inches and was runner-up in the discus.
Somewhat amazingly, five girls actually broke the meet record in the 300 meter low hurdles. Johnson finished with a 50.7 to smash the old mark of 52.29 she set last year. However, that was only good enough for second place as Parkersburg South's Nicole Fluharty now has the new record with a time of 50 seconds flat.
Waterford's Austin Shriver held off Dylan McNutt of Williamstown by a tenth of a second to win the 110 meter high hurdles with a clocking of 16.4. The only other Williamstown boys to win an event were McNutt in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 43.1 and Alex Marchetti in the pole vault (13-6).
The other individual victors for the boys included Garret Lynch of Parkersburg South in the high jump (6-0) and Magnolia's Timmy Shreeves in the 400 (53.5).

St. Marys, which was followed in the boys team scoring by Ritchie County (83), Williamstown (67), Tyler Consolidated (52), Waterford (47.5), University (38), Ravenswood (31), Parkersburg South (20), Scott (17) and Wirt County (3), posted a 3:52.8 showing in the 4 by 400 to secure the meet title. Jordan Whitehair anchored the victory while leadoff man Derek Bayless was followed by Brett Wright and Charlie Drazba.
Tyler Consolidated, thanks to the quartet of Brandon Frey, Jordan Smith, Jeremy Smith and Isaac Graham, clipped the host 'Jackets by seven-tenths of a second to win the shuttles in 1:03.1.
Jeremy Lawrence, Patrick Watson, John Scritchfield and Cole Starcher turned in a 1:40.4 effort to win the 4 by 200. The 4 by 800 was captured by Ritchie County in a time of 9:20.7, thanks to Rebels' Clint Hardman, Josh James, Thomas Elliot and Jeffery Britton.
The Williamstown girls had three individual victories, thanks to Shila Allman in the discus (102-8), Hunter House in the shot put (32-0) and Liz Flowers' winning 9-6 showing in the pole vault. The 'Jackets also took second and a tie for third place in the pole vault as well, thanks to Lincoln Postlewaite (8-6) and McKenzie Smith, who finished at 7-6 along with Haley Parks of St. Marys.
Coach Hall's squad also won the 4 by 800 in a time of 11:01.3, thanks to solid running from Megan Albertson, Brooke Cieslewski, Cami Mossor and Shealee Mossor. WHS also claimed wins in the shuttles (Brooklyn Hammer, Kylie Hammer, Jessica Kerns, Postlewaite) with a time of 1:10.2 and the 4 by 400 (Megan Roberts, Ciara Flowers, Albertson, Kathleen Cornell) with a final time of 4:27.4.
Ally Rohrer of Waterford won the 100 by less than a tenth of a second with a 13.4 clocking against University's Sydney Dotson. The Hawks had three individual wins, thanks to Amelia Paladino in the 800 (2:36.6) and 1600 (5:40.1) and teammate Sydney Dotson's winning time of 1:03.7 in the 400. Rohrer's posting of 27.7 was also good enough to finish first in the 200.
The St. Marys girls, who finished in a tie for third with University at 84 points and was followed by Parkersburg South (77), Scott (26), Ritchie County (25), Waterford (21), Magnolia (10) and Wirt County (5), had two other wins. Taylor Pickens won the high jump (4-10) while Maggie Drazba ran away from the field with a 11:40.9 showing in the 3200.
Johnson was runner-up in the long jump behind the winning leap of 15-7.5 by Kasey Williams of Parkersburg South.
Parkersburg South nipped University - 1:56.8 to 1:57.0 - to win the 4 by 200 using the foursome of Nicole Fluharty, Kayleigh Rexroad, Kari Simon and Williams.
Tyler Consolidated turned in the fastest time in the 4 by 100, which was 53.7, thanks to Maddi Schlabowski, Hillary Casteel, Jackie Clark and Rheanna Foley, whose 22.5 points placed her second in the high-point chase.
