READING, Ohio (AP) — Police in suburban Cincinnati say a 14-year-old boy suspected of killing his infant stepsister by intentionally smothering her is in custody at a juvenile facility.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports a detective wrote in a sworn statement that the teenager said he covered the sleeping infant's face with a pillow because he heard voices telling him to do that. The newspaper says an arrest slip indicates the boy has a psychiatric disorder.
WKRC-TV reports the father told police the infant had been napping.
Emergency responders were called about the unresponsive infant on June 25 in suburban Reading (RED'-ing), about 15 miles north of Cincinnati. The teen was taken into custody last weekend.
WCPO-TV reports that a note on the family's door indicates they aren't commenting on the situation.
