MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A former Martinsburg High School quarterback has filed a complaint alleging a correctional officer assaulted him at the Eastern Regional Jail.
Justin "Cookie" Clinton is being held at the jail on breaking and entering, grand larceny and other charges.
The Journal (http://bit.ly/1rqKBWp ) reports that the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority is investigating the 19-year-old Clinton's complaint. He alleges that a correctional officer grabbed and injured his arm.
Authority executive director Joe Delong tells the newspaper that the officer has been placed on unpaid leave pending the investigation.
DeLong says the jail's medical unit saw Clinton and determined he had no serious injuries. He says nurse reports indicate that Clinton complained of a sore arm after playing basketball.
Clinton led Martinsburg High to a state championship in 2012.
