RIPLEY - West Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting death Sunday of a Ripley man.
Larry Fields, 19, died Sunday evening at Charleston Area Medical Center after being shot in the head with a BB pellet rifle, said Sgt. Michael Baylous, spokesman with the West Virginia State Police.
The Ripley detachment of the state police responded to the scene of the shooting at W.Va. 1, Box 154, Sunday around 2:45 a.m. The investigation revealed Fields was shot in the head by acquaintance Jared Devin Wade Anthony, 18, of Ripley, said Baylous.
Fields was taken to Jackson General Hospital and later transported to Charleston Area Medical Center where he died.
Drugs and alcohol appear to have contributed to the shooting incident, Baylous said.
Criminal charges have not been filed, but Baylous said charges may be filed once the investigation is complete.
