PARKERSBURG - A woman and two children were taken to the hospital Sunday evening following an accident along U.S. 50.

A 2004 Pontiac Sunfire, driven by Michelle Thornberry of Wyatt Lane in Belpre, was traveling east Sunday evening when she apparently attempted to make the exit onto the Staunton Turnpike at the last moment, hit her brakes and slid into a guardrail, said Sgt. Brett Pickens of the Wood County Sheriff's Department.

The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and is being considered a total lost. Two children, an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old, were in the vehicle at the time.

The children and Thornberry were transported to Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Pickens did not believe anyone sustained serious life-threatening injuries, but there were complaints of neck pain that needed to be checked out.

Everyone in the vehicle was wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, Pickens said. No citations were issued.
