Homer E. Byrd

Homer Edward Byrd, 62, of Beavercreek, Ohio, formerly of Petroleum, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, after an extended illness.

He was born July, 17, 1948, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Joseph and Garnet Schoolcraft Byrd.

He was Seventh Day Adventist by faith. He attended Shenandoah Valley Academy School in New Market, W.Va., and was honored to serve his nation as an army medic during the Vietnam War, as well as in the 1092nd National Guard and the 146th Air National Guard. After serving his country, he was an avid truck driver for 20 years and a loving father to three wonderful children.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lucy Pearl Byrd; children, Randy Byrd and wife, Charleene, of Beavercreek, Tony Byrd of Petroleum and Tabitha McCune and husband, Calvin, of Alma, W.Va; brothers, Joseph Byrd and wife, Bobby, of Cutler, Ohio, and Jeff Byrd and wife, Dana, of Cutler; sister, Donna of Parkersburg; 10 grandchildren, Calvin McCune, Tracy McCune, Latasha McCune, Tonyna Byrd, Hilary Byrd, Hilton Byrd, Heather Byrd, Trenton Byrd, James Byrd and Sylvia Byrd; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Byrd; and a grandson, Gabriel Byrd.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg. Pastor Tom Blake will officiate and burial will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15. The visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.
