Samuel Ray Winland, 80, of Parkersburg, passed away Sept. 25, 2010, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 15, 1930, in St. Marys, a son of the late James O. and Clara E. Bailey Winland.
Samuel retired from WVU-P in 1982. He was a member of Lauckport Baptist Church. While there, he had served as an usher and sang in the choir. He had also been a member of Jefferson Baptist Temple for over 30 years. There he had served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, sang in the choir, and also served as assistant treasurer and a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Michael Winland and wife, Gloria, of Williamstown; daughter, Vicki Curlee and husband, Rusty, of Phenix City, Ala.; four grandchildren, Michael Winland and wife, Trisha, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kristin Stephan and husband, Greg, of Melrose, Mass., Eric Baker of Ft. Hood, Texas, and Timothy Baker of Ft. Wainwright, Alaska; one great-grandchild, Maddie; and one brother, James Winland of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nellie Hollerson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, with the Rev. Bernard Thrash and the Rev. Dr. Gerald Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
