PARKERSBURG - A Fox News political commentator and former adviser to President Clinton will lead a rally for congressional candidate David McKinley next month in Parkersburg.
The McKinley campaign Wednesday morning issued a release saying conservative analyst Dick Morris will highlight the rally in early September and details will be released in about a week.
A source familiar with the planning said Morris on Sept. 1 will be in Parkersburg at a time and downtown location to be announced later. The campaign deferred comment to the release.
McKinley is running against Michael Oliverio, a state senator and insurance agent from Morgantown. McKinley in May defeated a half dozen candidates, including Mac Warner who is running for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senator in the special primary election on Aug. 28.
The two candidates will participate in a 7 p.m. Oct. 19 forum in Parkersburg at the Smoot Theatre. The forum is sponsored by AARP of West Virginia and will be moderated by Hoppy Kercheval of MetroNews.
Morris would be the second big name coming to West Virginia for McKinley. Earlier this year, Senate Minority Leader John Boehner highlighted a McKinley campaign rally in Morgantown.
Morris has also written for the The Hill, New York Post and the National Post in Canada.
He is best known for consulting President Clinton in his 1996 re-election, helping the president steer a middle course between the conservative and liberal politics of the Republican and Democratic parties.
Morris also was campaign adviser Clinton's gubernatorial campaign in Arkansas, but has also worked for Jesse Helms, a Republican senator from North Carolina, former Republican Minority Leader Trent Lott of Mississippi and former New York City Mayor Ed Koch.
He founded vote.com where citizens can vote and opine on major issues and the results are emailed to congressmen.
