PARKERSBURG - A Parkersburg South High School graduate has been awarded a $20,000 scholarship from KFC.

Asia-Bryanne Greenleaf was one of 75 students out of more than 100,000 applicants nationally to be chosen as a KFC Colonel's Scholar by the Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation.

Greenleaf is eligible to receive up to $20,000 during the next four years while pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited home-state university.

Greenleaf graduated from PSHS in the spring and will attend West Virginia State University in the fall, majoring in chemistry, biology or education. Greenleaf hopes to pursue a degree in dentistry.

Greenleaf participated in various sports at Parkersburg South High School, including volleyball, track and basketball, all while maintaining a 4.5 grade point average. She also played on a club basketball team throughout her high school career.

The scholarship recipients are selected based on need, academic performance and the student's impact on school and community.

The program, now in its fifth year, has awarded more than $6.5 million in scholarships.
