Alcohol, speed factor in accident with injuries
MARIETTA - Investigators say alcohol and speeding factored into a single-vehicle accident that landed three Washington County men in the hospital early Friday morning.
According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Austin W. Wright, 19, of Lower Salem, was driving a 1991 GMC Sonoma pickup truck south on Ohio 60 around 12:25 a.m. Friday when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a signpost and a utility pole, then came to a rest in a field about four miles south of Beverly.
The impact ripped the bed and rear axle from the truck.
Wright and two passengers, Christopher Miller, 19, and Charus Bennett, 19, both of Lowell, were transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Wright and Miller were treated and released, but a spokesperson said Bennett remained in the hospital in stable condition Friday night.
Police said the crash investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
Fire and rescue units from the Beverly and Waterford areas also responded to the scene.
