BOYS

Ravenswood 70,

Sissonville 46

SISSONVILLE - In a battle of ranked preseason top-five Class AA programs, No. 4 Ravenswood went to third-ranked Sissonville here Wednesday and throttled the host Indians, 70-46.

Ryan Benson continued his early-season torrid shooting as the Red Devil senior drained seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points. He also added eight rebounds.

RHS, now 4-0 with a road game Saturday afternoon at Tyler Consolidated, also got 15 points from Luke Murray and 14 more from Bobby Rymer while Chad Small and Mark Davis combined for 20 rebounds. Rymer added seven assists and Cole Starcher chipped in eight counters.

Sissonville (1-2) received 11 points apiece from Lucas Walker and Caleb Heller.

Magnolia 73, Oak Glen 63

NEW MARTINSVILLE -Mark Winters scored 19 of his team-high 20 points in the second half as Magnolia defeated Oak Glen 73-63 on Wednesday night.

Magnolia led 30-29 at halftime then extended the advantage to 48-42 by the end of the third quarter. Winters went to work in the fourth quarter after scoring 15 points in the final eight minutes. The freshman just missed a double-double after pulling down nine rebounds.

A total of three Magnolia players scored in double figures, including Jared Blatt with 16 points to go with 10 boards, and Jordan Moore with 14 points.

Gilmer County 74

Roane County 64

GLENVILLE -A trio of 3-pointers by Cody James in the third quarter proved to be the clinching blow as Gilmer County defeated Roane County 74-64 on Wednesday night.

Ryan Hough led Gilmer County (3-0) with 20 points, while James pitched in 18 points. Teammate Cam Kinder finished with 13 points.

Scoring in double figures for Roane County (0-3) were Alex Mace with 19 points and Colter Taylor with 16 points.

Midland Trail 62,

Wirt County 54

ELIZABETH - Midland Trail outscored Wirt County 17-3 from the free-throw line and came away with a 62-54 victory in the championship game of Wednesday's Wirt County Holiday Tournament.

All-tournament selection Joey Fox led Midland Trail with 23 points. Three players scored in double figures for Wirt County (1-2), including Levi Kerby with a team-high 13 points. Roy White and Zach Cheuvront pitched in 12 points apiece for the Tigers.

GIRLS

Ripley 46, Bridgeport 45

BRIDGEPORT -Alannah Sheets scored all of Ripley's 13 fourth-quarter points from the free-throw line to secure a 46-45 win over Bridgeport on the final day of the Bridgeport Christmas Shootout Wednesday afternoon.

Sheets finished with a game-high 25 points and teammate Taylor Wilson added a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds as Ripley improved to 3-4.

Kelsy Mullins led Bridgeport (4-2) with 11 points. The Indians knocked down a 3-pointer as time expired to cut the deficit to one.

Roane County 60,

Braxton County 51

SPENCER - Corri Phillips tossed in a game-high 20 points on Wednesday, but it wasn't quite enough as host Roane County rallied from a 20-8 deficit after the first eight minutes to knock off Braxton County, 60-51.

Roane County, which plays a 6 p.m. home game Monday versus Gilmer County, was led by freshman point guard Becky Frye's team-high 16 points. Frye spent most of the first half on the bench in foul trouble and netted all of her markers after halftime.

Raiders Clarissa Pinson and Taylor Bradley both added 14 points in the victory.

Tyler Consolidated 60, Paden City 46

KIDWELL - Heather Suter scored a game-high 28 points as Tyler Consolidated defeated Paden City 60-46 on Wednesday night.

The Silver Knights (2-6) broke out to a 21-10 first-quarter lead before Paden City sliced the gap to 30-22 by intermission. Tyler Consolidated pulled out to a comfortable margin after outscoring the Wildcats 13-5 in the third quarter.

Alli Bertozzi led Paden City with 25 points.

Scott 47, Ravenswood 35

RAVENSWOOD - No. 2 Scott held fifth-ranked Ravenswood to 28 percent shooting from the floor as the Skyhawks dropped the host Red Devils, 47-35, here Wednesday in the Ohio River AA Showcase.

Emily Rector was the only Ravenswood (4-1) player to reach double figures in scoring, hitting for 16.

Scott, now 5-0, got 16 counters from Brittani Adkins and 11 more by Makenzie White.

The Red Devils return to action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a varsity only contest against visiting Williamstown.

Doddridge County 45, Gilmer County 40 (OT)

WEST UNION - Doddridge County scored the first seven points of overtime and defeated Gilmer County 45-40 in the championship game of Wednesday's Kermit VanScoy Invitational.

Doddridge County's Jamie Barr hit a 3-pointer with 7.9 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into the extra session tied at 37.

Samantha Bailey led Doddridge County (3-2) with nine points, while Barr and Hunter Holland each finished with eight points.

Maggie Lilly led Gilmer County (2-3) with 12 points.

Ritchie County 54,

Calhoun County 28

WEST UNION -Leandra Villers poured in 17 points to lead Ritchie County (5-3) past Calhoun County 54-28 in the consolation game of Wednesday's Kermit VanScoy Invitational.

Calhoun County, led by Savannah Church's 13 points, trailed 26-15 before Ritchie County outscored the Red Devils 16-5 in the third to pull away.

St. Marys 55, Frontier 47

NEW MATAMORAS -Kelsea Fickiesen finished with a game-high 21 points as St. Marys pulled away late for a 55-47 victory at Frontier Wednesday night.

St. Marys (4-0) clung onto a 37-35 lead before outscoring the Cougars 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Heather Booth led Frontier (0-7) with 15 points.

WRESTLING

PHS' Nolan

3rd at Powerade

CANONSBURG, Pa. - Parkersburg High School 145-pound senior Jordon Nolan took third place in his weight class here Wednesday at the 43rd annual Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament at Canon McMillan High School.

Nolan, who went 4-0 on the day with each of his victories coming via pin, got a mat slapper with 15 seconds left in the first period in his consolation finals match against Benny Schaufele of Mt. St. Joseph (Md.).

Overall in the two-day tournament, which is considered to be the fourth toughest in the nation, Nolan went 6-1 and recorded five triumphs by pin.

PHS returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a home triangular against Brooke and John Marshall.

Hendrickson,

Hasley win crowns

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio - Williamstown's Matt Hendrickson and Marietta's Justin Hasley both captured individual crowns here Wednesday in the America's Best Value Inn wrestling tournament.

The 215-pound Yellowjacket Hendrickson topped Oak Glen's Dylan Davis 10-4 to win by decision. Hasley won his crown at 145 as the Tiger pinned Brogan Endres of Dover in 3:47.

Williamstown also had runner-up finishes from Cody Kelly at 119 and Tyler George at 152. 'Jacket Zach Zide was third at 125 while teammates Brett MacIver and Mark Board took fourth place finishes at 112 and 171, respectively.

Marietta 189-pounder Austin Gaskins also reached the consolation finals, but lost and had to settle for fourth place.

Oak Glen won the team title ahead of host St. Clairsville, 355-299, while Williamstown (188.5) was seventh in the team standings and Marietta with 110 points finished 10th.

South wins

Wheeling Park Duals

WHEELING - Parkersburg South completed an 8-0 two-day barrage at the Wheeling Park Duals by drilling Steubenville, 58-12, in the championship match on Wednesday night.

The Patriots, now 16-0 in dual meets this season, just got school dual meet win No. 600 on Tuesday evening.

Against the Big Red, Patriots Briar Shively (125), Caleb Norman (130), Tyler Green (140), Cody Richards (145), Coleby Richards (160), Chris Smith (171), Steven Brogle (189) and heavyweight Mark Swisher each recorded pins.
