Holiday tournaments galore tonight

PARKERSBURG - Rather than take off the week in between two major holidays, area basketball teams are using this week to participate in holiday tournaments.
Parkersburg High, Parkersburg Catholic, Ravenswood, Doddridge County, Ritchie County and Wirt County are serving as the host teams for events tonight, while several other area schools are participating in out-of-area tournaments.
Here's a rundown of tonight's tournament action:
Girls
- The second annual Jack Stephens Memorial Holiday Tournament will begin tonight at Memorial Fieldhouse. The opening game, set for 5:30 p.m., will pit Nicholas County against Huntington St. Joe. At 7:15 p.m., host Parkersburg High will take on Liberty High School of Harrison County. The consolation and title games are set for the same times on Wednesday.
- At Parkersburg Catholic High School, the Mary O Crusaderette Classic will begin its two-night run at 6 p.m. when Magnolia meets Reedsville Eastern. Following that contest, the host Crusaderettes will meet Belpre. The tournament concludes on Wednesday, again with games at 6 and 8. The tournament is named in honor of former Catholic and Tennessee standout Mary Ostrowski.
- At Ravenswood, the Ohio River AA Showcase isn't an actual tournament, but rather a two-night showcase for four of the top Class AA teams in the Mountain State. Oak Glen and Scott will open the tournament at 4 p.m., with host Ravenswood meeting Sissonville at 6 p.m. On Wednesday, Sissonville will meet Oak Glen at 6 p.m. with Scott facing Ravenswood at 8 p.m.
- At West Union, Doddridge County High School will kick off the Kermit VanScoy Invitational, featuring four Little Kanawha Conference teams. At 6 p.m., Calhoun County will meet Gilmer County, followed by the game between host Doddridge County and Ritchie County. The tournament concludes with 6 and 8 p.m. games on Wednesday.
- At Bridgeport, Ripley will be in the all Class AAA field at the Bridgeport Christmas Tournament, The Vikings will meet Robert C. Byrd at 2 p.m. with host Bridgeport taking on Hampshire at 4 p.m.
- Two other tournaments that include local teams began on Monday and will conclude tonight. Williamstown will be competing in the BB&T Holiday Tournament at Clarksburg Notre Dame and Wood County Christian will take part in the Eagles Hoop Classic at Gilead Christian School.
Boys
There are four tournaments featuring boys basketball games.
The Wirt County Holiday Tournament begins tonight while the other three events started on Monday and will crown their champions tonight.
- At Elizabeth, the four-team Wirt County event will feature Midland Trail taking on Hundred at 6 p.m. with the host Tigers meeting Buffalo at 8 p.m. The consolation and title games will take place at the same times on Wednesday.
- At Ellenboro, the Ritchie County Holiday Tournament, which opened play on Monday, will conclude tonight with games at 6 and 8 p.m.
- Also, the BB&T Holiday Tournament at Clarksburg Notre Dame, featuring Williamstown and Calhoun County will see its consolation game at 3 p.m. and its title contest at 7 p.m.
- Plus, Wood County Christian will conclude its appearance at the Eagles Hoop Classic being conducted at Gilead Christian School.
