Gregory D. Whited

Gregory D. Whited, 47, of Mineral Wells passed away in Elizabeth on Dec. 6, 2009, after a 2 1/2-year battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 6, 1962, in Wood County, the son of the late Charles L. Whited and Garnet Ashby Whited of Elizabeth, W.Va. He was a 1980 graduate of Wirt County High School. He served in the United States Army from Dec. 4, 1980, to Jan. 24, 1986. Greg was a truck driver for several years and later opened his own business, Whited Trucking Inc. from 1999-2007.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and family.

Surviving, along with his mother, is one daughter, Maegan E. Whited of Ravenswood; one son, Charles G. Whited of Burning Springs; three brothers, Donald (Kim) Whited of Elizabeth, Mike (Chris) Whited of Elizabeth and Terry (Luann Frazier) Whited of Elizabeth; two sisters, Teresa Pettry of Ohio and Sherry (Jeff) Salsbury of Elizabeth; special friends, Brenda Hyatt and Blair and Wanda Salsbury, all of Mineral Wells; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother-in-law, Lloyd "Pete" Pettry; and several aunts and uncles.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth with the Rev. Dean Ash, the Rev. Robert Watkins and the Rev. Timothy Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in the Two Runs Cemetery of Palestine. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donations can be made to the Wirt Youth Wrestling or the Wirt Youth Football.
