Wood BOE scheduled to meet Tuesday
By MICHAEL ERBPARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education will meet Tuesday to discuss the district's search for a new superintendent and to hand out several recognitions.
The school board will discuss questions written by board members which will be included in the online superintendent's application. Each board member will present several possible questions, and the board plans to whittle those down to 3 to 5 which will be included with the application.
The online application will be available through the West Virginia School Boards Association's Web site. The association has been hired by Wood County Schools to facilitate the superintendent search.
The board will vote Tuesday to post the superintendent's position. The board also is expected to approve a special meeting for Jan. 11, 2010, to screen applicants for the superintendent's position.
The school board also has scheduled several recognitions for Tuesday, including honoring the Pakersburg High School Boys Soccer Team as West Virginia AAA Champions.
A $3,200 Portable Dental Clinic check will be presented to Teresa Bayer, coordinator of health services for Wood County Schools, by representatives of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation.
In addition to regular business, the board also is expected to approve Policy 5110.1: Attendance Requirements for Graduation, and four policies -Policy 2200: County Personnel Files; Policy 2210: School Personnel Files; Policy 4120: Non-exempt Employee Overtime; and Policy 6142.6: Distance Learning and Virtual School Courses - will remain on public comment. Policy 1120.1: Notice to the Public and News Media of Board Meetings will be presented for review and placed on a 30-day public comment period, being up for approval at the board's Jan. 12 meeting.
The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the board's 13th and Plum Street offices in Parkersburg.
