Wirt County falls to Richwood
By Jim Workman, Special to The News and SentinelRICHWOOD - Richwood's 1-2 punch delivered a knockout blow Saturday night.
In fact, quarterback Sam Tindal and running back Dustin Brown seem to enjoy rewriting history.
The No. 3 rated Lumberjacks rolled up a Class A playoff record 594 rushing yards in a 46-26 dismantling No. 6 Wirt County in a Class A quarterfinal playoff contest.
Richwood (12-0) will travel to Man to take on the No. 2 Hillbillies in a semifinal game next week.
Though it will be officially announced by the WVSSAC office this afternoon, Richwood coach Jason Rogers revealed that the Lumberjacks will choose to play the game Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
"We like playing Saturday nights," he said. "That way, we can keep the same schedule as this (past) week."
Tindal contributed an individual playoff rushing record 358 yards.
The junior signal caller scored three touchdowns and senior teammate Brown chipped in with three scores and 206 yards on the ground.
The record breaking performance left even Rogers a bit bewildered.
"I can't explain it," he admitted. "All I know is that if they're on Dustin, Sam takes over. And if you're on Sam, Dustin takes over.
"The offensive line was dominant," he added. "You don't break rushing records without the guys up front."
Richwood is one victory away from it's first Super Six appearance.
"It feels awesome," said Brown. "We've never been here before. I'd like to keep playing."
Wirt County quarterback Jake Hutchinson completed 12-of-30 passes for 178 yards. He connected with receiver Dalton Brindo on three TD passes as the Tigers played from behind from the opening quarter.

Yes I was there and the refs were definitely crappy. But you really cant complain when you only had 3 or 4 penalties against your team. I dont think it really matters about refs when you cant stop the run. It's the playoffs and they should let them play. The better team definitely won and that is all that matters.

bkhwv1: How could u possibly blame the wvssac for losing to Richwood. I think you lost because you played a better team and u gave up over 500 yards rushing. And if my stats are correct, Richwood had seventeen penalties against them to your 3 or 4. Dont blame the refs for not having a defense. You had a good run but the better team won the game. The game wouldn't have even been as close as it was had it not been for the refs. The only thing that struck Saturday night was two Richwood players setting records against Wirt's defense. Thank you and please give credit where credit is due.
