PARKERSBURG -It's the year 2007 all over again for the Roane County football team.

Two years ago, Roane County won at Ritchie County to advance to the postseason for the first time in the program's history. Fast forward to this Friday night and the same scenario presents itself. Through all the calculations from their assistant coaches, a win and the Raiders are in.

Currently, the 5-4 Raiders are ranked No. 16 in Class AA.

"From what I'm being told, there could be some movement where we could stay at 16 or move to 15 under the correct circumstances," Hardman said. "All I need to know is that a win takes care of us getting into playoffs.

"We're excited that a winning season is in front of us, and from where we came from that's a big deal."

While Roane County has won five of its last six games, Calhoun County in Class A is looking for help from a variety schools. The 5-4 Red Devils are also sitting on the fence tied at No. 15 with Matewan.

According to Calhoun County head coach Doyle Hupp, a combination of two teams losing on a list that includes Valley (Fayette), Pendleton County or Bishop Donahue will enable the Red Devils to earn a postseason berth as long as they defeat St. Marys at home Friday.

"I think it will take more than just us winning," Hupp said. "The big thing is that we have to beat St. Marys. After that, I don't know. There are a lot of different scenarios.

"If we are lucky enough to get in, then good. If we don't, it's nobody's fault but our own."

Area teams which have solidified a spot in the state tournament but also trying to increase its stock in their respective polls are No. 5 Williamstown (7-2), No. 8 Wirt County (7-2) and No. 12 Parkersburg Catholic (7-2) in Class A, along with No. 2 Magnolia (9-0) and No. 5 Ravenswood (8-1) in Class AA.

In Class AAA, Ed Forshey has Parkersburg (6-4) finishing between as high as 13th or as low as 16th.

"Most likely, Parkersburg will finish 14th and play at either South Charleston or Bridgeport," Forshey said.

Parkersburg South has one game remaining at John Marshall.

A win could bump the Patriots as high as 11th. A loss and South is fighting for the 15th through 17th positions.

"If South loses, it all depends on what Hurricane and Princeton does," Forshey said.

Even if Ripley (7-2) defeats Ravenswood, the Vikings would need Nicholas County to lose at home to winless Preston to take the eighth spot and receive a first-round game at home. A loss and the Vikings could fall as far as 11th through 13th.
