Three people waive hearings in Mineral Wells shooting

By JEFFREY SAULTON jsaulton@newsandsentinel.com
POSTED: October 8, 2009

PARKERSBURG Three people charged in a fatal shooting in Mineral Wells on Sept. 20 waived preliminary hearings Wednesday in Wood County Magistrate Court.

Toney Lee Dickel, 19, 1680 Bogal Ridge Road, Mineral Wells, appeared before Magistrate Emily Bradley and waived preliminary hearings on three charges of nighttime burglary. He was bound over to circuit court.

Daniel David Dickel, 20, 1680 Bogal Ridge Road, Mineral Wells, and Shianne Danielle Winters, 20, 259 Open Gate Road, Washington, W.Va., appeared before Magistrate Joyce Purkey and each waived a preliminary hearing on a charge of nighttime burglary. They also were bound over to circuit court.

According to the criminal complaint filed against them, on Sept,. 20 Dickel, along with Daniel Dickel, Sane Dye, Scott Gush, Shianne Winters and others went to 100 Mineral Manor Way, to confront Bryce E. Barnes.

Police said Barnes and others at his apartment received threats prior to the group's arrival. Police said Dickel found out from other residents that Barnes lived in Apt. 205 and they went to the apartment.

Toney Dickel and others harassed Barnes and others in his apartment by yelling, pounding and kicking the door of the apartment. The door was kicked in and Dickel entered the apartment with others, including Chris Dickel.

"While inside the apartment, Chris Dickel was shot by Bryce Barnes," the complaint said.

Dickel, 19, died from the wounds.

The defendants, police said participated in the destruction of more than $10,000 to property belonging to Barnes or to the Mineral Manor Way Apartments.

k26101....the shooting happened BEFORE the apartment or anyone was touched!! Sounds like they were very upset that their family member was just shot, THEN, things got tore up!!!! The order these events happened in is VERY important!

Are they ever going to tell us why they went in there in the first place? I haven't heard anything about why they went over there.

Imagine that -- bound over to the Grand Jury.. hint hint to all the ones before that said they got out on bond and nothing else.. these people do deserve to be in jail-- one-15? how bout 25

maybe then they will understand that whatever the reason for fighting.. it isnt worth it

The charges are weird, night time burglary, but I guess when you bust in the door, thats what they call it.

How the heck did they do 10 THOUSAND dollars in damage buy kicking the door open? I don't know many people in apartments who even have 10 THOUSAND dollars worth or personal possessions.

That's a bit hard to believe.

But I guess we will see what comes out of it in the end.

I feel for this kids parents. I hope the others get what they deserve. I would think the others would be charged in some way for the death of the kid that was killed. They went there with no good in mind.

These three people as stated in the article "each waived their preliminary hearing for nightime burglary". The headline is misleading...
