Melissa Bateman-Jones

Melissa Ann Bateman-Jones, 43, of Parkersburg passed away Sept. 21, 2009, at her residence.

She was born April 22, 1966, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late David Bateman and Shirley Barber. Melissa was a teacher's aide at Madison School. She dedicated herself to social work and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Melissa is survived by her four children, Alethea Bateman of Miami, Fla., Tenishia Rhodes of Clarksburg, W.Va., Alex Solberger and Briana Bateman of Parkersburg; three brothers, Mark Barber and Alan Barber of Columbus, Ohio, and Harold Barber of Kuwait; three sisters, Tammy Canty and Cheryl Barber of Parkersburg and Kimmy Butcher of Columbus, Ohio; and three grandchildren, with one on the way.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Following graveside services at Rainbow Cemetery near Lowell, Ohio, there will be a gathering of family and friends at Sumner School. Those attending are encouraged to bring a covered dish.
