Glenville begins new dormitory project
GLENVILLE - Demolition crews have razed the former Wesleyan Foundation in preparation for a new Glenville State College dormitory facility to house almost 500 students.
The dorm is expected to be ready for 220 students in August with the remainder of the rooms open in 2011.
Peter B. Barr, GSC president, said the modern two-thirds acre facility would facilitate continuing enrollment growth, as well as significantly impact the economic growth of the region.
A variety of other projects are ongoing as well.
Two weeks ago the multimillion dollar Morris Criminal Justice Training Center was dedicated. Local philanthropists I.L. "Ike" and Sue Morris donated the building, land and money for the extensive remodeling of the facility. Work at that facility is nearing the final stages.
In addition, the Morrises made a $5 million challenge pledge to jumpstart fundraising efforts for a large multi-use complex across from Pioneer Villege on Mineral Road. It is expected to house a gymnasium, convocation center, classrooms and Gilmer County's first 24/7 critical care medical facility.
In the coming weeks new lights are to be installed at the college's football field to meet NCAA night game requirement output.
A new recording studio is being custom-built on the lower level of the Fine Arts Center.
