Police recover stolen items

PARKERSBURG - Stolen merchandise was recovered Wednesday morning from 2306 Broad St. after police responded to the house for a destruction of property call.

A flat screen television reported stolen from Big Sandy Super Store on Garfield Avenue and a grandfather clock reported stolen from Belpre Furniture in Gihon Village were recovered from the home of William Clarence Barker and his girlfriend, said Lt. John Young with the Parkersburg Police Department.

Belpre Furniture reported the grandfather clock stolen June 20.

Officers were originally called to the Broad Street house on a destruction of property complaint shortly after 6 a.m. After police arrived at the home, the complaint had changed to domestic violence, officials said.

Police received a tip that stolen items were inside the house. After obtaining a search warrant, officers recovered the stolen items, Young said.

Barker was arrested on an obstruction charge at 7:15 a.m. and arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court Wednesday, but no charges have been filed relating to the stolen items, Young said. Barker's girlfriend, whose name was not released by police, has not been charged, Young said.

The arrest comes a week after John Piersol, 34, and Tasha Ault, 20, of Davisville were arrested and charged with breaking and entering. The two are suspected of breaking into Big Sandy Super Store and stealing 11 flat screen televisions, two DVD players and a digital converter box.

Big Sandy Super Store reported two more thefts on July 17. Police say there may be a connection between the stolen items recovered Wednesday morning and the Big Sandy theft on the weekend of July 11.

"There may be more charges down the road for Barker, but at this point, we need to get more information on the Big Sandy thefts before more charges are filed," Young said.
