WILLIAMSTOWN - After almost a year away from home, a group of local National Guardsmen will return to their families this morning.

Members of Detachment 3, Company B, 834th Aviation Support Battalion of the West Virginia Army National Guard will be welcomed home at 11:30 a.m. today at the Army National Guard, Williamstown Readiness Center along West Virginia 31.

Col. Joe Bongiovanni said the guardsmen will fly into the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport and will head directly to the center for a reunion with their families.

Bongiovanni said the detachment was a maintenance group in Iraq for the past year. He said some members have been home because they left for a two-week leave, but this will be a return of the entire unit.

When they arrive they will be addressed by Maj. Gen. Allen E. Tackett, adjutant general for the West Virginia National Guard, Bongiovanni said.

Thank you for your service. As one with family in the Guard who also served in Iraq, I know the toll that the separation can take and am very thankful that these families are now reunited. God Bless the Guard and God Bless the USA!!
