William L. Holland Sr.

William Lee Holland Sr. went home to be with his Lord on April 30, 2009.

He was born in Parkersburg, on June 30, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany, where he was the European Weightlifting Champion in 1964. He was a member of Bellefounte Baptist Church in Charleston, Tenn., where he sang in the choir. He was an avid lifelong fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack L. Holland Sr. and May Fry Holland; brothers, Jack Holland Jr. and John A. Holland; and sisters, Mabel Madison, Charlotte Feathers and Sandra Hupp.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Rosemary Aldridge Holland; sons, William Holland Jr. and wife, Deborah, and John Holland, both of Cleveland, and Andrew Holland and wife, Christy, of Riceville, Tenn.; brothers, Gary Holland of Marion, S.C., and David Holland, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; granddaughters, Erin Chumley of Nashville, Tenn., Autumn, Haileigh, Riley and Kylee Holland, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Bellefounte Baptist Church with Pastor Lake Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Scott Clayton, Zack Carden, Shane Rayburn, Phillip Gaston, Chad Rose and Tim Brown serving as pallbearers. Darrell Gaston, Matt Wiley, Marvin Hudson and Phillipe Nave will serve as honorary pallbearers. The body will lie in state from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Honduras Mission Trip, c/o Bellefounte Baptist Church, Charleston, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at the Grissom Funeral Home, Cleveland, Tenn., who is in charge of arrangements.
