Chamber remains without a president
By JODY MURPHYPARKERSBURG - The Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley continues on without a president.
Robin Ollis, 2009 chairman of the board, said a search committee has been formed and based on the time table, hopes to have a new president in place by the end of the first quarter.
"The search committee has been formed and we will finish the salary and benefits compensation package," she said. "Those items need to be approved (by the board). Then we will be ready to advertise."
The chamber has been without a president since Oct. 1, when George Kellenberger retired. Kellenberger had been with the chamber since 1975.
In addition to Kellenberger's retirement two other longtime employees were reduced from full-time to part-time. The organization's Eighth Street headquarters is also for sale.
Ollis said the chamber has already received some resumes from people interested in becoming the chamber's next president. She said the board is trying to decide on a direction for the chamber and its leadership needs.
"Over the last several weeks, the chamber board of directors has under taken a process where we took a stat-driven approach, looking at what is working for the organization and what changes we need to make for the future," Ollis said. "That approach will help us determine what characteristics we will be looking for in the chief executive."
Without a job description, salary and benefits package for the post yet to be determined, Ollis is unsure if those resumes will suit the criteria. Ollis said once the board approves the salary and compensation package, it will advertise the position, probably around the end of the month.
"We hope to be able to do interviews within the first quarter and have someone on board and ready to lead the organization by the late first quarter, early second quarter of 2009."
