Julius named St. Joseph’s Hospital CEO
By RACHEL LANEPARKERSBURG - The new chief executive officer of St. Joseph's Hospital was announced Tuesday. Interim CEO John D. (Jack) Julius has accepted the position effective Jan. 1, 2009.
Julius became the interim CEO after Alan King resigned near the beginning of October. Julius is the third new CEO at the hospital in about two years.
"We are very proud to have Jack lead the team at St. Joseph's Hospital," said Charles R. Miller, president and chief executive officer of Signature, the parent company of St. Joseph's. "When Jack came to St. Joseph's and the Mid-Ohio Valley in early October, it was our goal to find a leader who would fit with the hospital and the community. In very short order, Jack began building on St. Joseph's strengths and heritage. His enthusiasm and expertise will add stability to the hospital and be of great value to the community."
Julius has 35 years of healthcare executive experience.
"My two months as the interim CEO have been a great introduction to the physicians, staff and services at St. Joseph's," Julius said. It has "allowed us to realize we're a good fit" in the hospital and the area.
"I think we have a very good hospital and staff and I want to make it a great hospital," he said. "St. Joseph's is known for a caring attitude."
For the past 20 years, he has provided interim management and consulting services for hospitals and health systems throughout the nation, working as the interim CEO in several hospitals where Miller was involved.
"The most recent was earlier this year at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton, Texas. His leadership during that assignment ultimately resulted in the interim leadership role at St. Joseph's," Miller said.
Julius and his wife, Patty, hope to be settled in the area by Jan. 1. He said he and his wife hope to be active members of the community.
Julius is a native of St. Louis, Mo. He served as a captain with the Medical Service Corps of the U.S. Air Force Reserve. A graduate of Saint Louis University, Julius is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and previously served on the Board of Governors of the Federation of American Healthcare Systems.

It is owned by an subsidiary of HCA/Columbia, but I can't remember the name. It is a corporation that is interested in making money. Since SJH has left the hands of the Catholic Church, the hospital's charitable care has dropped significantly. They are not interested in the community/people, they are only interested in making money.
