POSTED: October 15, 2008

PARKERSBURG - Giving people the tools they need to do their jobs effectively is the goal of a new business in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

William Hale, Ph.D., formed Personal Development Services LLC, a consulting firm that helps businesses, new or established, create a more productive working environment through techniques and strategies to increase personal efficiency and effectiveness.

Hale, a Parkersburg native, is a 1989 Parkersburg High School graduate who attended West Virginia University-Parkersburg, Marietta College and attended graduate school at the University of Tulsa and the University of Colorado. He earned degrees in industrial and organizational psychology and a doctorate degree in educational psychology.

Hale said he had worked in other states, but decided to come back to his hometown to work with local businesses and established Personal Development Services LLC in May.

"I know the businesses here and I know the business people," he said. "I decided to offer consulting services locally."

Hale said his goal is to help local businesses invest in their people because they depend on them to make the organization a success.

Hale said the company will develop and deliver job training programs and professional development education sessions and workshops, market development research and strategic planning, organizational assessment and general organizational development services.

Programs can focus on mediation and conflict negotiation, effectively motivating employees and teams, developing professional leadership and followership and project management. Climate surveys can give businesses answers to why certain problems occur, he said.

"Climate surveys help to establish a work climate where business are able to increase revenue, attract and maintain high quality employees, increase workplace productivity, minimize interpersonal workplace disruption and legal action and achieve employees loyalty and support for your organizational mission," he said. "A customized climate survey provides a tool for obtaining the pulse of the organization."

At present Hale said he is the main consultant and has others who work with him depending on the size of the project.

Hale said his goal is to give businesses an option of tools to deal with issues they will face in the course of business.

"I have a favorite saying that if the only tool you have is a hammer then all of your problems will look like nails," he said. "Our goal is to give businesses a variety of tools to deal with different problems."
