Fence company expands territory

October 12, 2008

CENTRAL - A Wood County fence company has expanded its territory to include a wider service area, including portions of West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky, thanks to a purchase.

Alco Fence Co. has significantly expanded its territory, said Vince Nowell, company president.

"Anywhere within a three-hour radius of Parkersburg is now within the territory we serve," he said. "That's in addition to the territory we have traditionally served in central West Virginia from our office in Fairmont."

The expansion is the result of Alco's acquisition of AmeriFence, the Mid-Ohio Valley's largest fencing provider, based in Vienna, according to a press release. George Andrews, who has worked for Alco for 12 years, has been promoted to vice president and manager of the Vienna office.

"There are very strong indications that this area is set for strong growth," Andrews said. "I look forward to helping Alco be part of it."

Since 1974, Alco Fence Co. has sold and installed chain link, PVC and ornamental aluminum fences. Single installation projects have ranged from $200 to more than $1 million, company officials said.

"An important part of our operations is spending a lot of effort on making sure we are up-to-date on all regulatory standards in the areas where we do business," Nowell said.

Alco also has a national fence paint manufacturing service, Alco Fence Painters, with more than 40 dealers nationwide.

In addition, it operates Alco Fence Co. of Florida, which is based in Fort Myers.

Alco does business in seven states: West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky and Florida.

The average employee has been with the company for at least 10 years, officials said.

"Our employees are our partners," Nowell said. "And we believe our customers benefit."
